IRC Furthers the Work in Honduras in April
April was a busy month for IRC in Honduras. On April 6th, they successfully hosted the first Ministers Conference at the La Florencia Hotel in Tegucigalpa. There was record attendance as they filled out the event space. The conference was hosted by Tim Hines, Dalton Hines, Chase Turner, and Diego Rojas. Chase and Diego presented a Bible study application to all attendees that you can download to your phone (Cbpoc app) and use to teach people, as well as easy access to help in your own personal bible study. It allows people to have the Word at their fingertips for teaching and learning. The attendees were thrilled at the ease of use of the information and have already taken it back to their congregations and started using it to study and share with others.
The same evening, they came back and participated in the regularly scheduled program of Saturday night youth group soccer and devotional with the young men from the local youth group.
Improvements were begun on the IRC property, in anticipation of the summer. Construction projects included work on the Clinic and a new bridge and a new cement lined drainage ditch for the water to flow through the property. Work on the Clinic bodega commenced as they built a laboratory and dug out some roots that were tearing up the floors in the clinic and laid new tile and lined the walls with tin. Gardening was done around the property to beautify the surroundings.
We visited the school in Mirador de Oriente, where we were able to share with them the donated bi-lingual books that were collected last year at Sonquest, as well as see the projects and improvements to their facility. New bathrooms, the completed cafeteria (that was started during the Hines/Davidson TORCH trip last year), as well as updates to their other buildings including new tile and paint. We were able to visit each class, and the children and teachers were welcoming and excited by the visit. During the first several days of La Semana Santa (Holy Week in Honduras), 10 couples from Baxter Institute were hosted on the property, at the Agua Viva retreat center, as they were unable to travel home to Cuba and Venezuela for the holiday week. Everyone had a great time, playing ping pong, bumper pool, basketball, baseball, relaxing in hammocks, playing soccer, watching movies (with popcorn of course), and they were also able to go swimming at a local town park. We ate Venezuelan arepas and Cuban carne asada. They had a great time relaxing and we enjoyed hosting them.
Finally, scouting was done for the summer trips and preparations were made for the groups staying at the Santa Ana property.
