IRC Clinic de Esperanza Receives High Awards from Global Giving
This past month IRC/Clinica de Esperanza received some of the highest awards from Global Giving. Clinica de Esperanza provides free healthcare to impoverished of Honduras.
The goal of the clinic is to provide healthcare for 4,000 people per year who do not have access or funds for basic health needs. This includes medical diagnosis, treatment, medication, dental care, nutrition and education in basic hygiene. The goal is to enable these individuals to lead a healthier and more productive life.
Gayle Davidson, the founder and director of the clinic, has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the poor health situation in Honduras, and the Clinica de Esperanza is one of the several ways which she makes healthcare available to the people of Honduras. She runs mobile clinics, where she takes the staff at the Clinic out to villages to administer healthcare, as well as being the Medical Director for the TORCH mission groups that come down in the summer and hold clinics in the communities TORCH/IRC works. She has recently added on a dental portion to the clinic, as well as offering psychological counseling to the community. Gayle runs an Intern program to educate young people desiring to go into the medical field. She has built a dorm in conjunction with Greg Mock to house Resident Interns to spend time in the field of tropical diseases to give them an advantage into this very unique medical experience. She coordinates with multiple hospitals and healthcare centers to monitor the nutrition in children and adults in various regions of Honduras. Gayle has been on the front lines of the earthquake in Haiti, Sierra Leon, and Liberia to help with the Ebola crisis and has worked in the midst of hurricanes Katrina and Irma, to tend to many wounded and first responders in the worst hit areas. She and her teams continue to surpass benchmarks that were difficult under the best of circumstances. Because of her diligence, IRC has received top recognition from on of its prestigious partners, Global Giving.
