IRC Feeds the Honduran People Amidst Covid-19 Lockdown

Currently in Honduras, the residents cannot go out of their houses, except one day a week, which they are assigned by the government.  However, many of the rural areas cannot get into the city to purchase their food, as all public transportation has been halted until further notice from the government, in hopes that this will help stop the spread of the Covid-19 virus.   These communities, including members of churches that IRC and TORCH have helped establish are starting to run out of their food supplies.

IRC is partnering with our local contacts in the Tegucigalpa area to purchase bulk food quantities, like is done during the summer TORCH trips, and distributing to the areas and churches that we have helped in summers past.   A load of food costs $2000, and it makes 200 bags of food.   The plan is to distribute bags to six community churches in the Tegucigalpa area, where the locals and church members can come and get staples like rice, beans, flour, sugar, etc. so they can feed their families.

Please consider giving to the food fund, to help not only our brothers and sisters in Christ, but also to help them reach out to the local communities and meet their most basic need of food for their families.

We have been able to provide food this past week, along with the help of Mark Connell and the Honduras Project, to the area churches.  This upcoming week, we will be able to send out 400 bags of food to several of the local churches.  The goal is to send out 600 bags of food to the six churches every 2-3 weeks.
